Vendor Item Data Files
Companies are to
provide copies of their inventory files, including U.P.C. numbers, in electronic
format (see fields below). All IBCA files on this page are zipped, Excel™ files
that can be imported into another word processing, spreadsheet or data base
program. Fields are in the following order:

CATALOG NUMBER (Alternate Part Number); |

U.P.C. NUMBER (12 digits); |

DESCRIPTION (Text field); |
|
UNIT OF MEASURE (i.e. EA, FT, LB); |
|
PACKAGE INDICATOR LEVEL 0 (quantity field; in most cases the
quantity will be "1"); |

PACKAGE INDICATOR LEVEL 1 (quantity field; "R" for reserved); |
|
PACKAGE INDICATOR LEVEL 2 (quantity field); |
|
PACKAGE INDICATOR LEVEL 3 (quantity field); |
|
PACKAGE INDICATOR LEVEL 4 (quantity field); |
|
PACKAGE INDICATOR LEVEL 5 (quantity field); |

These files are not intended to compete with pricing services or
CD ROM catalog services that have a lot more information than the fields shown
above. The files are helpful to companies who just need to add the U.P.C. number
and other basic information to their data base.
When retrieved, each supplier is downloaded individually. Once
files are downloaded, users will employ a file compression utility to unzip the
files. Then, they will import the file into a word processing, spreadsheet or
data base program.
